One of the UNESCO’s world heritage sites in the state of Karnataka; Pattadakal lies in the Bagalkot district of Karnataka. The temples date from the 7th to 8th century AD. The site is a wonderful example of the temple architecture in the Deccan during the Chalukyan period.

Participants will experience these 1300-year old Chalukyan temples through guided tours, stories, dance demos and expert interaction. The participants will observe the differences in the architectural styles of the various Gopurams and learn interesting anecdote and stories of the political-social- economic history of the Chalukyan period in an inquiry-based exploration.

Vijayapura, the city of domes and arches, has architectural and engineering masterpieces that exemplify the confluence of many cultures in the Deccan – where lotuses bloom on geometric minarets, where paintings of yoginis hang alongside those of fakirs and princes, and where a poem may have words in Urdu and Sanskrit in such beautiful balance that it makes you want to dance! Vijayapura is a perfect place to discover how two cultures coming together can create both conflict and confluence. Participants will meet scholars and learn about the history, art and architecture of the Adil Shahi period. They will visit the world famous Gol Gumbaz and Ibrahim Rauza. They’ll work with members of the Lambani Community and experience a part of their life and culture.
